There are two articles for this date. This is the brief one. Some of the information in this is different from other reports, namely the fact that only 1 of the occupants was a "Boy" and the time given being 5pm!

COLLIERY FATALITY NEAR SWANSEA.

TEN LIVES LOST.

A terrible accident has occurred at Garnant Colliery, Cwmamman, a small village about twenty miles from Swansea. About five o'clock p.m. nine men and a boy, whose names have not yet transpired, entered the cage for the purpose of descending to their work. They had only descended a few yards when the rope (a new wire one) broke, and the cage with its unfortunate occupants was precipitated to the bottom, a depth of 100 (this figure is illegible due to poor print). Help was obtained with as little delay as possible, but it was soon ascertained that all the occupants of the cage had been killed, their mangled bodies being found at the bottom of the shaft. The colliery, which is worked by Mr. Pugh, M.P., but practically managed by Messrs. Letrichex and Davis of Swansea, supplies anthracite coal and gives employment to 150 men. It has been worked for about ten years and has not hitherto been the scene of any serious accident.
